Aftercare

Look after it.

A tattoo is a wound for the first two weeks. Treat it like one and it'll heal sharp, even and saturated.

01

First 24 hours

Keep the wrap on for 2–4 hours (or overnight if it's a Saniderm/second-skin patch). Wash gently with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap, pat dry with a clean paper towel, then leave it uncovered.

02

Days 2–7

Wash twice a day. Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturiser (Bepanthen, Hustle Butter or similar) — thin is the key word. Too much suffocates the skin.

03

Days 7–14

You'll start to peel. Don't pick, don't scratch — let flakes come off in the shower. Itch is normal; slap, don't scratch.

04

Weeks 3–6

The surface is healed but the deeper layers are still settling. Keep moisturising and stay out of direct sun.

05

Forever

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. SPF 50+ on tattooed skin is the single biggest factor in keeping your work looking sharp for decades.

Things to avoid

  • ·Swimming pools, spas and the ocean for 2 weeks
  • ·Direct sunlight and tanning for 4 weeks
  • ·Picking, scratching or re-wrapping
  • ·Tight clothing on fresh work
  • ·Heavy gym sessions for the first 3–5 days
